This is an electronic form:
The way we will use is called Copy and Paste. In Windows
Applications, Copy and Paste is often the
easiest way to move information. The material being moved is stored
temporarily in the Clipboard.
When you move text to an email or an electronic form, the text will not
have any fonts, or attributes (like italics) that you may have used on your
wordprocessor.
Moving text starts with blocking or selecting the
text to be copied.
There are several ways to do this. We will first do it by dragging
with the mouse. You do this by putting the
pointer at the
beginning of the text, holding down the [left] mouse button and dragging
the pointer across the text wanted.
* Do this now with the part of this text between the asterisks (stars) *
Put the pointer on the first star and drag it to the second.
You will see
that the selected text is blocked in colour. When you release the mouse
button, the block of colour remains. Whist it is like this, you can perform
operations on it.
With the part blocked that you want to move, press CONTROL/C to
copy it to the clipboard.
Now move up the page to the message area of the electronic form. You can
move up the page using the scroll bars, or you can go straight to the
electronic form by clicking
here.
Click the mouse in the message area and then press CONTROL/V to
paste the copied text into the message area.
Copying and pasting a whole document
To copy and paste a whole document into the message area we can either use
the menu at the top marked "Edit", or we can use key strokes. The menu will
probably tell you what the key strokes are. Click on it now.
The menu probably includes these three commands:
Copy (Control/C)
Paste (Control/V)
Select All (Control/A)
If some of the commands are in faint writing, that means they cannot be
used at the moment. You cannot, for example, copy anything until something
is selected. The Control characters are the keys you can use instead of
clicking on the menu item.
Click on "Select All". The whole of this web page will be blocked. Now
click on "Copy". This will copy the page to the clipboard.
Now move up the page to the message area of the electronic form. You can
move up the page using the scroll bars, or you can go straight to the
electronic form by clicking
here.
Click the mouse in the message area and then press CONTROL/V to
paste the whole page into the message area.
Copying from a wordprocessor to this page
Copying from another application, like a wordprocessor, to an email or an
electronic form, involves the same processes and keys that we have just
used. The difference is that we copy in one application (the wordprocessor)
and then switch to the email or electronic form to paste what we have
copied.
You need, therefore, to be able have this page and a wordprocessor open,
under Windows and to be able to move between the two. The ALT/TAB
command should move you between different programs under Windows. Hold down
a key marked "Alt" at the same time as you press the key with two arrows on
the left hand side of the keyboard (The "tab" key). This should move you to
another program. You may have to do it more than once.
Open a wordprocessor
Open a file (an essay, for example) in the wordprocessor
Use the Edit menu or CONTROL/A to select all of the file.
Use the Edit menu or CONTROL/C to copy all of the file.
Use ALT/TAB to return to this page.
Now move up the page to the message area of the electronic form. You can
move up the page using the scroll bars, or you can go straight to the
electronic form by clicking
here.
Click the mouse in the message area and then press CONTROL/V to
paste the whole page into the message area.
